澳洲是亚太重要的和平使者 Australia is an Important Peace Messenger in the Asia-Pacific Region
The United Nations has an international legal jurisdiction over any territorial dispute and a peaceful way of dissolving the problem. Why doesn't the United States challenge the Chinese territorial islands and reefs in the United Nations? Why provoke China by military means? Doesn't this run counter to the United States oft-repeated slogan, "To preserve peace in the Asia-Pacific region"?
I am pleased to see that the Australian Prime Minister, Morrison, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Defence have expressed concern about the incident. They all want to see continued stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. Prime Minister Morrison told Radio 6PR:" we’re cool heads, in this situation we’re measured, we have very strong relationships with both the United States and with China, have had for many years. It’s in all of our interests I think, to take that approach. The prosperity of our region has been a major boon for Australia and we want to see that continue. But our values are our values and we work closely with our defence partners in the region and more broadly. We’ll continue to do that, but what you can expect from our Government is just a continued common sense. Cool heads engaging with everybody in a very calm way and ensuring that we’re working for the best strategic outcomes of everyone involved here, but also most importantly, the national interest of Australia which demands the approach we’re taking."
Yes, if China and the United States were to go to war over a small incident in the South China Sea, the consequences would be unthinkable — the freedom of navigation in the whole of the Asia-Pacific region would then be really affected and destroyed by the war. Not to mention that this war will lead to the instability of the entire Asia-Pacific region, but will also bring a huge loss of life and property to the region, bringing untold numbers of victims and refugees! The United States and China have two very painful historical experiences in Korea and Indochina. Don't they cherish the terrible lessons of history? In particular for the United States, history has proved that US has often been a cause of war since World War II . The US has left a terrible mess in the Middle East. However in order to keep America's economy going and trying to save face, US continues to sell arms and using war, have you considered helping the tens of millions of people and homeless refugees who died and were affected by the Middle East and create wars. Moreover, does the United States think that modern China is as easy to bully as it used to be?
Prime Minister Morrison is right. Australia can be an important peacemaker in the Asia-Pacific region. The leaders of China and the United States should keep a cool head and think about the long-term stability, prosperity and peaceful development of the Asia-Pacific region. The Asia-Pacific Economic and Trade Organization (APEC), launched by Australia in 1989, is also a very important peacemaker organisation. The formation of APEC has witnessed that only by taking the path of peaceful development for all countries , can lasting stability and prosperity be created, benefiting the peoples of the world, not just the Asia-Pacific region.
